Universal IOL Formula Analyzer and Optimizer
Universal IOL Formula Analyzer & Optimizer
This free, browser-based clinical analysis tool helps cataract surgeons and researchers evaluate and optimize the performance of any IOL power calculation formula. Upload a standard dataset of surgical outcomes (CSV or Excel), and the tool automatically detects prediction error, keratometry, IOL power, and axial length columns — no manual mapping required.
The analyzer produces a comprehensive statistical workup of prediction errors: descriptive statistics, normality testing (Jarque-Bera, Anderson-Darling, Kolmogorov-Smirnov), distribution analysis, threshold tables, and publication-ready charts — histograms, box plots, violin plots, cumulative distribution functions, and scatter plots with linear regression, Pearson correlation coefficient, and R² against any biometric parameter (IOL power, axial length, keratometry, or the computed sensitivity factor F).
Its core feature is a universal lens constant optimization engine based on the published sensitivity factor method (Gatinel D et al., Am J Ophthalmol 2023;253:65-73; Transl Vis Sci Technol 2024;13(6):2). The per-eye sensitivity factor F = 0.0006(P² + 2KP) is computed individually and then averaged — correctly accounting for the nonlinear relationship between IOL power, keratometry, and refractive sensitivity. Three optimization targets are derived simultaneously: ME=0 (zero mean bias), SD-min (tightest prediction spread), and RMS-min (lowest root mean square error). This approach is universal: it works with every IOL calculation formula that relies on a positional constant — A-constant, surgeon factor, predicted ACD, or a0 — regardless of formula generation or brand.
Subgroup analysis allows stratification by any categorical variable (IOL model, surgeon, formula) with per-subgroup optimization comparison. Cumulative numeric filters let you isolate specific populations (e.g., axial length 22–26 mm, IOL power 18–24 D) and analyze them independently. All data processing runs entirely in the browser — no server upload, no account, no data transmission. Patient privacy is absolute. The tool supports seven languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese), dark mode, responsive mobile layout, and one-click PNG export for every chart.
Whether you are a high-volume cataract surgeon looking to fine-tune your preferred formula, a clinical researcher preparing a comparative IOL power formula study, or a fellow learning refractive outcomes analysis — this tool delivers publication-grade analytics in seconds, at no cost. It is intended as a research, clinical decision-support, and teaching tool for ophthalmologists involved in cataract and refractive lens surgery.
